During a delivery almost 9 years ago, a money and her son suffered many birth injuries because of the malpractice of the doctor that was working with them. While the mother was pushing the baby out of her birth canal, the baby got stuck and didn’t want to come out. The hospital resident took forceps and pulled on the baby’s head for a reported 23 minutes until the baby finally came through the birth canal. When the resident, Dr. Po Ching Fong, finally pulled the baby out, records show that the baby was incredibly oxygen deprived and can out lifeless from the mother’s birth canal.
Once the doctors performed emergency resuscitation, the baby began to take breaths and regain a heartbeat. The anesthesiologist showed that the baby needed oxygen so proceeded to insert a breathing tube into the baby’s lungs. The doctor made another mistake and put the tube into the baby’s esophagus instead of the wind pipe which pumped oxygen into the baby’s stomach instead of lungs.
After a 9 year long trial, the law suit was finally completed yesterday with the mother and her son being awarded $19.6 million for damages during the delivery of her son. Because of the birth injuries, the son now has cerebral palsy because of the damage to his brain.
