Determined Child with Cerebral Palsy Saved his Family from a House Fire

June 24th, 2008 · No Comments

It is easy for us to think of disabled individuals as always needing help in some way, shape, or form.  Their dependence upon the immediate family and sometimes complete stranger paint a picture of incapability and helplessness, much like that of a newborn child.  However, every once and a while something happens that challenges our conceptions of what is truly possible in any given situation.

Gregory Bridewell, a small Kentucky boy who has suffered from cerebral palsy, was watching television at the family home.  All of a sudden the television blew up and caught fire.  The small boy managed to crawl his way outside to alert his grandfather, who was doing yard work.  As a result, the grandfather was able to evacuate the house before disaster struck.  Imagine what this amazing little boy would be able to do were he not suffering from cerebral palsy.

Birth Injury has serious consequences if not dealt with properly.  If you or someone you know needs help dealing with the result of a serious birth injury, feel free to call 866.950.9000 to speak with a birth injury law specialist.

Study Reveals Complications from Giving Birth

June 12th, 2008 · No Comments

A new study has revealed that painful sex after giving birth may affect more that 33% of women. The European research project sent out questionnaires to about 482 women, asking about their sexual health and lifestyles after having given birth.

The most common problem is that of “sexual morbidity,” which includes a host of symptoms: painful sex, lack of feeling during sex, lack of lubrication and incontinence. The study also suggests that the use of forceps during delivery to help the passage of the baby actually increases the chances that sexual morbidity will occur within one year after giving birth.

The consequences of giving can be far-reaching, and when a doctor does not fulfill his responsibilities in ensuring you and your baby’s safe, he needs to be held responsible. For more information contact that birth-injury lawyers of the Williams Kherkher lawfirm at 866.950.9000.

Pain Management during Childbirth

June 9th, 2008 · No Comments

Giving birth to a child is quite the ordeal.  The all-too-familiar regimen of breathing-exercise classes, and “knowing what to expect” counseling sessions have placed into our minds the value of good preparation and readiness for the inevitable.  During labor, one must keep a close eye on both the mother’s and the baby’s health.  This wonderfully beautiful processes of bringing life into the world can turn catastrophic very quickly is things are not managed properly.

Among the plethora of variable that can affect the outcome of childbirth, one that is often overlooked (unless you’ve already been through the process) is pain management.  How much pain can a woman really take during labor and how will her response to that pain affect the baby’s health during passage?

Doctors need to be aware of the dangers involved and must respond to events appropriately to ensure the preservation of life in the labor room.  If not, the consequences could be dire.  For more information on how you can protect your baby and its mother during childbirth, contact the birth-injury lawyers at the law office of Williams Kherkher by calling 866.950.9000.

Cesarean Sections

May 19th, 2008 · No Comments

For most people, the cesarean section procedure is a sufficient alternative to vaginal childbirth.  But before agreeing to undergo such a procedure, it is important to understand the risks involved.  When a baby is born through c-section, it is more likely to sustain surgical cuts.  While this is usually a minor issue, these cuts may sometimes get infected.  Newborn babies are at a higher risk of developing serious complications from infections because they have less-developed immune systems.

C-section born babies are also more at risk to develop respiratory problems and asthma.  With today’s technology, the risks of your child’s life being at stage are minimized but still pose a threat.  Also, babies born vaginally are more likely to breastfeed from their mothers.  This means that these babies will receive all the required nutrients to grow properly during childhood.

Knowing the risks involved is the first step to protect you and your baby.  The most unpredictable complications can occur still and an added risk is that doctors will be exposing your baby to very sharp medical tools.  If you feeling your doctor may have been negligent if handling your baby call our Birth Injury specialists at 866.950.9000.
